Russell Spink

Researcher

Russell worked for twenty-three years in High School settings (Teacher of Music, Pastoral Care and Senior Leadership Team) before taking up a post at Keele University where he was part of the Secondary Teacher Training team. He was then appointed, as Senior Lecturer, in the School of Education at Staffordshire University. During five very happy years (2013-2017), he became Course Leader for the MA Education programme and the PgCHPE (PG Certificate in Higher and Professional Education).

Biography

Between 2017-20 Russell held concurrent posts. One, as Director of the ‘Stoke on Trent Research School’ and, secondly, as Assistant Director of ‘Keele and North Staffordshire Teacher Education’. His research was focused on how teachers engage with research in support of their classroom practice.

In September 2020, Russell was appointed as a Personal Tutor for the OAKS SCITT (Secondary Teacher Training) and was delighted to return, to Staffordshire University, as a sessional tutor supporting postgraduate Education courses. Additionally, he is now a Tutor for Ormiston Teacher Training and the National Institute of Teaching.

Outside of Education, Russell enjoys travel and has a passionate interest in all things connected to aviation having gained a Private Pilot’s Licence in 1994. He also plays the piano in a local big-band.
